Il Mulinello, Monte San Savino, Tuscany
Beautiful villa in 6 acres, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 8/10.
Swimming Pool.
Il
Mulinello is set in 2.5 hectares (6 acres) of a woodland area. The
acreage was previously within the grounds of the existing monastery and
castle at Gargonza only 6 km distant visible from the grounds. A lovely
stream borders the area but which during the summer it is little but a
trickle due to the hot sun. The 'street' ( as the Italians refer to it )
from the main road is 700 metres and it is not recommended for low slung
cars. A water splash about one third of the way along the 'street' usually
runs well even during the summer as it is fed from all of the hills in the
immediate area. A path through the woods starts from the vicinity of the
storage house and leads well into the woods. The hill immediately behind the
house is Mulinello property and has terraces leading to the top. Apparently
the terraces were created by the monks and were used as vegetable plots for
their own use. You will see many of these terraces in Tuscany. An
electrically operated main gate is opened and closed remotely from the car
or the house and the control will be given to you on arrival. A security
system is installed and details of its operation will be supplied however
the owners have not used it either when occupying or absence. There are
several good restaurants and cafés locally, and plenty of interesting places
to visit further afield.
The Property: is beautifully furnished in true Italian style, and has a
lounge, formal dining room, fully fitted kitchen, 4 bedrooms and 3
bathrooms. The lounge is furnished with taste and flair, and the exposed
rafters are separated by local terracotta tiles giving the room a true feel
of Tuscany. There are two triple settees, a 17th century monks bench, and a
17th century working stone fireplace. Persian carpet adds colour to the room
as do the oils on the walls. The glass coffee table set, on pillars from
Hampton Court, England, adds to the ambience, and the matching leather side
tables create the blend of ancient and modern. The television receives UK
and Euro satellite programmes and has a DVD player attached. One has a
feeling of space when entering the formal dining room through the archway; 7
metres in length with tranquillity beyond words. A huge table seating at
least 8 people dominates the room, and antiques and works of art offer an
enchanting blend of comfort and style.
The
kitchen has a dishwashing machine, microwave, cappuccino / espresso coffee
maker, toaster, electric cooker, gas hob and a sink waste grinder; the
island table makes for happy and relaxed family dining and seats eight
comfortably. Adjoining the kitchen through a four folding French window is
an 'al fresco' area which has an extending Tuscan table and eight chairs.
Ideal for shading when the sun is high!

The
master bedroom boasts a queen sized bed with canopy, and is en-suite. The
second large bedroom has two locally crafted iron beds measuring 120 cm ( 47
in ) wide, and the slightly smaller bedroom has two smaller single beds.
Measuring 90 cm ( 37 in ) The ground floor bedroom has a queen sized fully
sprung mattressed sofa bed. Folding the bed away provides an excellent TV
room or a study for the working guest who must retain a communication with
his home office. There is a further bathroom on the first floor, and the
third bathroom is located on the ground floor. The bathrooms on the first
floor have shower, bidet, toilet and wash basin, and the ground floor
bathroom is slightly smaller and does not have a bidet.
Outside: The grounds cover an area of about 6 acres, and the swimming
pool is approximately 12 metres by 6 metres and is 2 metres deep in the
middle with the shallowest part of 1.2 metres. A shower is installed in the
pool area and pool furniture is set up in May to September when the pool is
open. The storage house, which is detached from the main house and reached
by a stone path a few metres from the kitchen, is equipped with washing
machine and tumble dryer. Ironing facilities are installed and there is a
small sink unit for laundering smaller items.
