Las Garzas Reales, Pueblo Laguna, Garrucha, Almeria.
2 Bedroomed Apartment, sleeping 6.

This is my home in Spain.  I have fitted it out to be my “home from home” in the sun  and would appreciate it if my visitors would kindly treat it as such.  I am adding homely touches on each of my visits. When I decided to purchase a “Home in the Sun”  I did a considerable amount of research into the different areas and climates of Spain.  After collating all my research, I decided to look for a place on the Costa Almeria which seems to be one of the few areas of  “real” Spain on the coast. Incidentally, it is also known as the “Garden of Enchantment” .  The Costa Almeria has  higher temperatures and more hours of sunshine than the whole of Spain. The area behind the coastal region has a wide range of  terrain - part of which is desert and where the Spaghetti Westerns were filmed (a good day out is at “Mini Hollywood” - approximately an hour’s drive away).
The short journey to Garrucha (45 minutes from Almeria Airport - 2 hrs  from Alicante Airport) is through some fantastic mountain scenery along a very good motorway which carries very little traffic.
Because I wanted a “Spanish” lifestyle in my second home, I picked Garrucha, a 10 minute drive from Mojacar Playa which has a large English ex patriot population.

The community consists of  30 apartments, shaped in  an “L”  .  Tresus (my apartment) is at the base of the L and at the end of a cul-de-sac.   The layout is 6 apartments forming the horizontal of the L,   2  two bedroom on  the ground floor and 4 one bedroom  on  the first floor.  Each of  these apartments has its own space on the roof  terrace.   24 apartments forming the vertical  of the L (8, 2 bedroom & 16, 1 bedroom)  The pool area is outside the apartment next door to Tresus.  The garden area to the side and rear of  Tresus belongs to me but has to allow access to the first floor apartments which are at the rear.  Please go around the back to the Pool.  It is most irritating for the people living in I1 if people cut across their terrace.
The apartment next door is owned and lived in permanently by an English couple.  One of the apartments above is owned by a French couple and the rest are owned by the Spanish (the vast majority of whom live in Madrid and their apartments are their holiday homes which they use in July and August and bank holiday weekends, the rest of the time it is very quiet.  There is a personal parking space with a security stand which has its own key to ensure no-one else can park in the space.

If you are looking for a nice relaxing holiday in the sun then my apartment is ideal.    There is a supermarket, a bar and a bar restaurant 5 minutes walk away to the left: another supermarket and a bar/snack bar 5 minutes walk to the right.  The beach is a 10 minute walk over the back or a 20 minute walk around the road, where there are a number of bar restaurants and snack bars.
You can walk along the beautifully laid out promenade into Garrucha (past the port where there are a number of fresh fish restaurants).  This takes about 20 minutes.  It is  a little more than a mile if you go by the road.  There is no “night life” as such in Pueblo Laguna or Garrucha but there is plenty in Mojacar.

If you just wish to relax, eat, drink and soak up the sun then you can manage without a car (I can arrange Airport Pickup if required) but if you wish to get about and see more of the area (which is well worth it - it is a 2+ hours drive to Granada through the most fantastic scenery) then you will need to hire a car.  It is advisable to do this before you go because, should you hire a car at the airport, it is more expensive.  I always hire mine through the internet. - look on the Mojacar website.
For those without a car  there is a bus service to Vera (where there is a Market every Saturday - Garrucha Market is a Friday) and Mojacar Pueblo and Mojacar Playa.

The linen is replaced weekly.  If you stay for 2 weeks, I ask that you put all the bed linen and towels in a bag for collection.  The apartment is cleaned when vacated.   I have a contact for any emergencies - Luke or Joby Polanski/ Jo Jones in Mojacar.  Their telephone number is in the apartment.  There is no gas in the apartment - it is all electric which I pay for, there are also plenty of candles (we all know about Spanish electricity!!, although I must say I have not experienced any power cuts yet (even in a bad thunderstorm!).

Even though I say it myself, the apartment is ideally situated.  The front faces west and the rear faces east.  This means you can sit on the terrace and watch the sun go down (the sun gets round to the front about 12 noon.) it also means the bedrooms at the rear get no sun in the afternoon and therefore are cooler to go to bed.  If you wish, you can watch the sunrise from your bed!!
