Aracena, the main town in the area, is only a twenty minute drive along scenic roads, and approximately 60 miles from the coast. A variety of shops, banks, Saturday market, numerous bars and restaurants, even an internet café, provide for all your needs. The famed Gruta de las Maravillas is well worth the visit. The Sierra de Aracena Natural Park, within which the Molino Rio Alájar lies, is ideal for walking, with many well-marked trails. Horse riding or mountain bikes are also available nearby. Suggestions for daytrips include the Coto de Doñana National Park, Spain's largest wildlife sanctuary, visited by a great variety of migrating birds, and one of the remaining strongholds of the Lynx; fishing villages of Huelva and some of Spain's finest beaches; Seville, the lively Andalusian capital.

The Cottages: the five stone cottages stand on raised ground on the right bank of the river, commanding views over the valley and surrounding hills. Chestnut beams and windows, hand-made floor tiles, and Andalucian décor provide a comfortable and authentic atmosphere. The two smaller houses, El Buho and La Tortuga, include a bedroom with two single beds, wood-burning stove, small refrigerator and an en-suite bathroom. Guests in these houses can prepare food in the fully equipped kitchen within the communal area.

The two larger houses, La Cigueña and El Conejo sleep 4 - 6 people and have under floor heating in all rooms. Each one has a large sitting-room with an open fire and comfortable seating. The kitchen area is to the side with gas hob and electric oven, fridge has a good selection of utensils, cutlery and earthenware. The bathroom is downstairs. Upstairs is a gallery with four single beds. To the side of the house and with a separate entrance, a bedroom with double bed and en-suite bathroom completes the accommodation. Bathrooms consist of a shower, toilet and basin.
All the houses have television and telephone and a terrace for dining alfresco. The spacious communal room has a sitting and dining area in front of an open fireplace. There are washing and drying machines and a fully equipped kitchen for the use of all guests. On the terrace is a barbecue. Guests can pick their own vegetables from the garden and firewood is provided free of charge. A short walk from your cottage, along country lanes lined with stone walls, takes you to the pretty village of Alájar with its white houses and winding, cobbled streets. Some of the bars and restaurants stand out for their cosiness and character.
